This article will take you through the process of formatting and using CSV text data in Market Analyst.

Formatting

1.    Open the CSV file in Excel
2.    If there are any text headings, remove them.
3.    Adjust all items in the Date column to use a format of dd/mm/yyyy
4.    If the file is of intraday data, adjust the Time column to hh:mm:ss
5.    Adjust the Open, High, Low and Close columns to use the same decimal settings (2 for example).
6.    Adjust the Volume column to use zero decimal places (if there is an Open Interest column do the same).
7.    Any other columns should be removed as Market Analyst will not be able to display this data.

The final result should look like this:

Save the formatted file as a CSV and place the file into a folder containing no other files.

Importing

1.    Open Market Analyst
2.    Go to the Files menu and select the Import Data Files option.
3.    Select Comma Delimited as the file type and choose if the data is EOD or Intraday.  You can use the Browse button to select the folder containing the text file.
4.    Click Next and type in the name of the folder as you want it to display in the Data File Selector.
5.    Click the Import button and Market Analyst will add the exchange.

Opening a Chart

1.    Press F3 on your keyboard.
2.    In the window displayed, locate the new exchange you have imported and left click it once.
3.    The CSV file will be displayed on the right hand side.  Double click it.
4.    The first time you open a chart sourced from a CSV file, Market Analyst will prompt you to set the formatting of the data columns.
5.    If you have used the formatting settings mentioned in Step 1 you will need to use the following settings:

Note – If Intraday data or the file contains Open Interest values you will need to add Time / Interest in the Field Order section.

6.    Click the Finished button, and the chart will display.
